Since 1981, the Scara race gathers the best young skiers of the world (-16 years old). This race is often named as the Ski World Cup for young athletes.  

 

More than 1500 young skiers compete for an international championship, which produces the next generation of national and international ski champions. Many of the biggest names were revealed through the Scara race, few examples are following: Joël Chenal (Giant slalom olympic champion), Jean-Baptiste Grange (Slalom world champion in 2009, and double slalom wold champion in 2011  and 2015), Anna Ottoson (alpine skiing olympic champion), or Anja Paerson ( world champion in 2004 and 2005, and slalom olympic champion).  

 

The race runs from April 2 to 5 : 

 

- Tuesday, April 2 2019 :  U16 Giant slalom for those under 16

- Wednesday, April 3 2019 : U14 Giant slalom for those under 14  

- Thursday, April 4 2019 : Slalom FIS U14 and Super G FIS U16 

- Friday, April 5 2019 : Super-G FIS U14 and Slalom FIS U16    

 

The Scara is not only a race, it is also a sociable event to share between the young athletes, and children. In fact, a games afternoon is organized in Val d'Isère center and followed by a parade of nations. To keep the childish spirit, the young champions win cups but also their weight in chocolate.  

 

The 39th edition of the Scara race is an unmissable event, where you will see  over a hundred of ski clubs from all over the world.
